NetGalley Unveils Seamless In-Browser Reading Experience

NetGalley has introduced NetGalley Reader, an in-browser reading platform that allows approved users to access eBooks directly on the website—no downloads or external apps required. Supporting both ePub and PDF formats, this upgrade aims to streamline the reading process for reviewers and early readers across the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Japan.

Audiobooks will continue to be available exclusively through the NetGalley Shelf app, but the new in-browser feature marks a major step forward in accessibility and convenience for eBook users.

In addition, NetGalley is enhancing security by introducing downloads secured with EDRLab’s Readium Licensed Content Protection (LCP). This ensures that publishers’ digital content remains protected while maintaining ease of access for approved readers.

Tom Shawver, Chief Technology Officer of Firebrand Technologies and NetGalley, shared the company’s excitement about the update:

“We’re committed to making books easily and securely accessible to NetGalley members, however they like to read. This major upgrade expands our Reading Options to allow for a seamless in-browser reading experience while also strengthening our partnership with EDRLab to offer portable, Readium LCP-protected downloads. We’re thrilled to create a simple and convenient reading platform for our community and a best-of-its-kind content protection solution for our publishers.”

The NetGalley Reader is now live and available to users worldwide, offering a frictionless reading experience that simplifies access while keeping publishers’ content secure.
