Bloomsbury Partners with Spotify to Expand Audiobook Offerings
Bloomsbury Publishing has inked a strategic licensing agreement with Spotify to bring its extensive collection of audiobooks to Spotify’s Audiobooks in Premium feature. This partnership marks a significant move in the evolving digital audiobook market, offering Bloomsbury’s titles to Spotify Premium subscribers in the UK, US, Ireland, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia. For non-subscribers, titles will also be available for purchase a la carte.
A Bold Step into Digital Audio Growth
Sam Halstead, Bloomsbury’s director of audio, expressed excitement about the partnership, emphasizing its potential to connect new audiences with their catalog. “The digital audio market continues to see strong growth globally, and our priority is to ensure that our authors’ and narrators’ works are part of this,” Halstead said. “The Spotify service is incredibly seamless, and we feel confident that this partnership will tempt and introduce a whole new generation of listeners to our audiobooks for years to come.”
Bloomsbury’s extensive library includes critically acclaimed and bestselling works, making the collaboration a substantial addition to Spotify’s growing audiobook platform.
Spotify’s Expanding Audiobook Vision
Duncan Bruce, Spotify’s director of audiobook partnerships and licensing, highlighted the significance of this partnership as Spotify marks the one-year anniversary of its Audiobooks in Premium feature. “There’s no better way to build on our momentum than with the addition of Bloomsbury’s beloved library,” Bruce said. “This partnership allows us to expand our author lineup and give listeners an even wider array of titles to enjoy, bringing us another step forward in our goal of reimagining the audiobook experience.”
Spotify’s Audiobooks in Premium initiative has already begun reshaping how users engage with audiobooks, blending the convenience of streaming with high-quality literary content.
Bridging Publishing and Technology
This agreement underscores a growing trend where traditional publishing companies are partnering with tech giants to adapt to the shifting preferences of readers and listeners. For Bloomsbury, it’s an opportunity to position their authors and narrators prominently in a competitive global audio market. For Spotify, the deal strengthens their audiobook offerings, positioning them as a key player in a space traditionally dominated by platforms like Audible.
As Bloomsbury titles debut on Spotify, both companies anticipate a significant boost in audiobook consumption, offering listeners an enhanced and convenient way to engage with storytelling in audio form.
