Mubi Expands Its Creative Universe with Mubi Editions

Renowned global film distributor and streaming platform Mubi is branching into publishing with the launch of Mubi Editions in April 2025. Dedicated to celebrating cinema and the arts, this new publishing arm will release 2-3 titles annually, exploring a range of formats and genres to deepen the conversation around film and its cultural significance.

The imprint’s books will be distributed in the US and Canada by Distributed Art Publishers and internationally by Thames & Hudson, ensuring global access to its cinematic explorations.

The Vision Behind Mubi Editions

Mubi Editions will feature four main series, each crafted to highlight different facets of the cinematic world:

  1. Projections – Exploring the world of film culture and history.
  2. Auteurs – Collaborations with renowned artists and filmmakers to produce unique books and art objects.
  3. Internegatives – Reissues of rare, out-of-print, or newly translated texts.
  4. Lights! – Delving into Mubi’s own productions and releases, offering behind-the-scenes insights and expanded content.

Daniel Kasman, Mubi’s vice president of editorial content, expressed the company’s long-term vision for this initiative, stating, “Since its founding, Mubi has always seen publishing as a key element of connecting cinema with global audiences. With Mubi Editions, we are building upon the great work done by our online and print publication, Notebook, and going even further: to start a new publishing arm dedicated to exploring the beauty and richness of the seventh art.”

The Inaugural Title: A Celebration of Film and Design

The first title under Mubi Editions will be READ FRAME TYPE FILM, a collaborative project developed alongside the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Written by curator Enrico Camporesi, design historian Catherine de Smet, and designer Philippe Millot, the book merges film, visual history, and design, offering readers a richly illustrated journey through these interconnected disciplines.

A New Chapter for Film Lovers

With its history of curating exceptional cinema and fostering thoughtful discussion through its streaming service and Notebook publication, Mubi is poised to make a significant mark in the world of publishing. Mubi Editions promises to become a haven for cinephiles and art enthusiasts alike, offering fresh perspectives and unparalleled insight into the art of filmmaking.

As Mubi expands its creative ecosystem, the launch of Mubi Editions underscores its dedication to honoring cinema’s profound impact on global culture—one book at a time.
