| If Jessamyn Carroll had only herself to consider, staying in Pennsylvania after her husband's death would have been a no-brainer. Her vindictive in-laws' efforts to get their hooks into her infant son, however, force her to flee to a new home. Konigsburg, Texas.
Peace... at least for now. She's even found a way to make some extra money, looking after sexy accountant Lars Toleffson's precocious two-year-old daughter. She finds it easy-too easy-to let his protective presence lull her into thinking she and her son are safe at last.
Lars, still wounded from enduring a nasty divorce from his cheating ex-wife, tries to fight his attraction to the mysterious, beautiful widow. But when an intruder breaks into her place, and Jess comes clean about her past, all bets are off. Someone wants her baby-and wants Jess out of the picture. Permanently.
Now Jess has a live-in bodyguard, whether she wants him or not. Except she does want him-and he wants her. Yet negotiating a future together will have to overcome a lot of roadblocks: babies, puppies, the entire, meddling Toleffson family-and a kidnapper.
Warning: Contains Konigsburg craziness, creepy in-laws, a conniving two-year-old, a lovelorn accountant, a sleep-deprived Web developer, and lots of hot holiday sex.
Reviews for Be My Baby
"Tight writing and a fantastic narrative make this story not only enjoyable, but something I'd recommend to others who love a good, solid romance. While I haven't read the preceding stories that occur prior to Be My Baby, I fully intend to. The Toleffson brothers are a fascinating group of men, and the women they love are equally memorable. I was particularly drawn to the dark and mysterious Erik. I hope he has his own story in the works. Don't forget to pencil this one onto your TBR list. I thoroughly enjoyed Be My Baby, and can't wait to read the previous (and future) stories in the series.

"Be My Baby is a thriller of a book. The Toleffson family is an exciting cast of characters that make the reader want to hear more of their stories. Meg Benjamin created a world anyone would love to visit. Be My Baby is well worth reading." - Delane, Coffeetime Romance
"I absolutely love this book and although it can be read on its own I wouldn't recommend it - it would be your loss to miss out on meeting a fantastic and dynamic set of people. Must read series and book..." - Erotic Horizon

An Interview with Meg Benjamin
By Holly Hewson for The Romance StudioHH: Meg, thank you for talking with us at TRS. Please tell us about your featured book, Be My Baby. MB: Be My Baby is the third book in my series about Konigsburg, Texas, and has many of the characters from Venus In Blue Jeans and Wedding Bell Blues (although you can read it without having read the other two). The hero is another of the Toleffson brothers, Lars the "ninja accountant." He’s recovering from a bad divorce and trying to make a home for his two-year-old daughter, Daisy. My heroine, Jess Carroll, is a newcomer to Konigsburg, a widow with an infant son, Jack. Lars hires her to babysit Daisy, not realizing that she’s on the run from her villainous mother-in-law who wants to bring Jack back to Pennsylvania, preferably without Jess. It’s my first thriller and was lots of fun to write.
HH: This is part of your wonderful Konigsburg series at Samhain Publishing. Where did the idea for the series itself come from? MB: When I finished writing Venus In Blue Jeans, I realized I didn’t want to say goodbye to those characters or the town itself. My hero, Cal Toleffson, had mentioned his three brothers so it seemed logical to follow up with them.
HH: What can you tell us about the first two books in the series? MB: Venus In Blue Jeans is sort of a mystery combined with a fish-out-of-water story. My hero, Cal, has just moved to Texas from Iowa and is getting used to being a vet in a small Texas Hill Country town. My heroine, Docia Kent, is also a relatively recent arrival. Together they experience some of the delights of the Texas Hill Country while solving some mysterious break-ins at Docia’s bookstore. Since Cal and Docia decide to get married at the end of Venus In Blue Jeans, Wedding Bell Blues is the next step -- the story of their wedding. It gave me a chance to introduce the rest of the Toleffsons, plus spend more time in Konigsburg. The hero this time is Cal’s older brother Pete and the heroine is Docia’s best friend and business partner Janie Dupree. The wedding itself is a series of disasters, but, of course, everything works out in the end.
HH: How does this story continue the series? MB: Lars is introduced in Wedding Bell Blues, along with his nightmarish trophy wife Sherice. I felt a little guilty about treating Lars so badly, so I wanted him to have his own happy ending next. That’s what Be My Baby does, along with giving me more chances to involve the rest of the Toleffsons in the crises that Lars and Jess experience.
HH: What do you like best about Lars and why might he be perfect for Jess? MB: He’s Mr. Responsible, as his brothers are fond of pointing out. But saving Jess from her mother-in-law requires him to take some chances he wouldn’t normally take. He cares about her so much, he’s willing to go out on a limb for her and do some things that could actually get him in big trouble. And, of course, it turns out that she really needs an accountant!
HH: What else do you have in store for lucky readers? MB: The fourth Toleffson book, Kisses Sweeter Than Wine, is with my editor now. I’m hoping to be able to announce a release date soon—it’s Erik’s story. Then I’ve got a draft of another Konigsburg book, this time without a Toleffson hero, and plans for more beyond that. I just can’t seem to leave that town alone!
HH: Recently retired from teaching. Any regrets? Was this to pursue your writing career? MB: Retiring was actually a lucky accident. My husband took a new job in Colorado and, having put in my twenty-plus years in the classroom, I decided it was time to do something new. I’m relishing the time to write and loving my new home. So no regrets to speak of!
HH: What would you most like to accomplish this year? MB: I’m trying to branch out into some new genres. I’ve written a couple of paranormals set in Texas and I’m working on some urban fantasies set in
Colorado. I’m hoping to find publishers this year.
HH: What are you reading these days? MB: I divide my reading time between romances and mysteries, which means I love romantic mysteries! I recently discovered the Australian mystery writer Kerry Greenwood and I’m having a great time with her mystery/historicals set in Melbourne in the 1920s.
HH: Any exciting plans for the summer? MB: Well, RomCon is going to be here in Denver in July, and I’ll be there signing books and meeting readers. Beyond that, I’m hoping we’ll be able to do some camping in the mountains and hit a few of the summer music festivals that seem to be all over Colorado. Last summer we were just getting settled. This summer I want to kick out the jams!
HH: Thank you!
