"Books don’t come much better than this one. I haven’t read all the books in this series, but I thoroughly enjoyed this one. From the first page my interest was captured with the strong plot and strong characters. I felt like I really knew the characters and could relate to them. Their actions and their dialogue were so real to me that it was easy to put myself in their place. The love scenes were very erotic with tenderness and emotion written in every word. Cyndi is a strong female who had some bad breaks in her “privileged childhood”. The fact that she has overcome her childhood is a testament to her character. An Interview with N.J. Walters

HH: N.J, welcome to TRS! Please tell us about your featured work, The Seduction of Shamus O'Rourke. NJW: Thank you Holly, and thank you to The Romance Studio for having me. The Seduction of Shamus O'Rourke is Book 4 of the Jamesville series, but it can be read as a stand-alone book. When Shamus stops on afternoon to help a woman with a flat tire, he has no idea how that one action will change his life. He's immediately drawn to Cyndi, but she has secrets, which will challenge his beliefs in the town he loves and shake the foundation of his family.
HH: So your heroine has a past that she'd like to lay to rest and a hero who wants her even though he senses her reluctance. Where did you get the idea for this intriguing story? NJW: I've had the idea for Shamus' story for years now. Discovering Dani, Book 1 of the series, was the very first book I ever wrote. That was back in the mid-nineties. Ever since then, I knew I was going to write a book for Shamus, and I knew who the heroine was going to be. I also knew it was going to be a challenge, as Cyndi is an older woman with a past that needs to be laid to rest before they can find happiness together.
HH: What do you like best about your title character? NJW: Shamus is one of my favorite characters. He's an amazing man. He works hard, plays hard, loves his family, and is always ready and willing to lend a hand to anyone who needs it. He appears laidback, but beneath that calm, friendly exterior is a will of iron. He's a caretaker and has gone about life taking care of his family and friends, with them barely even realizing he's doing it. He just does what he thinks best, and doesn't make a fuss about it. With Cyndi, things are not so easy, as she's as stubborn as he is. Plus, for the first time, he'll be facing real adversity. But he knows what he wants and he knows what's right. He's not afraid to stand up for what he believes and for the woman he comes to care deeply for.
HH: How do you go about developing the troubled past of a character? NJW: It's funny, but it's not so much that I developed a character with a troubled past, so much as she's told me about her past. Other writers will understand what I mean. Many of my characters come to me fully formed or they reveal their pasts as we go. Some characters, I'll sit and sketch out a life for them. With others, it's almost as if they're talking to me and I'm simply taking in the information. It was like that with Cyndi.
HH: What did you enjoy most about writing this story? NJW: The chance to finally put Shamus' story to paper. It flowed, but it wasn't always easy. It was hard to balance all the elements from this story, along with what had already happened in the past. I needed to keep it realistic and not push beyond the bounds of the believable. Cyndi was a challenge. She has a past that doesn't show her in a flattering light, but then again, most of us have things from our past we'd like to forget. Only Cyndi doesn't have that luxury. She has an entire town that knows about it and hasn't forgotten it in the years she's been away. This was a challenging, but very rewarding book to write.
HH: What are you working on now? NJW: I just handed in another Jamesville book to my Samhain editor and am waiting to hear back about that. Now, I'm working on my next Ellora's Cave book.
HH: What else do you have in store for readers in 2008? NJW: 2008 is already shaping up to be a very busy year. The Seduction of Shamus O'Rourke was released from Samhain Publishing on January 1st. On January 8th Pocket Books, in conjunction with Ellora's Cave, released Overtime, Under Him, a print anthology, which includes my EC Quickie Unmasking Kelly.
On February 20th, Amethyst Moon will be released from Ellora's Cave. This is a fantasy/ménage a trois novella that is part of the EC Birthstone series.
I don't have release dates yet, but Jackson's Jewel, Book 5 in the Awakening Desires series, should also be released from Ellora's Cave this year. Lily Blossoms, Book 3 in the Summersville Secrets series, and Threads of Destiny, Book 4 in the Tapestries series are also contracted and should hopefully be out sometime this year.
Rounding out the year in December, look for my story "Moon Magic" in the Ellora's Cavemen: Jewels of the Nile IV anthology in December.
That's what I know about for now. I'm also hoping to get some news on a few more print releases this year.
HH: You're a prolific writer, N.J. How much time do you devote to your career? NJW: I left my day job in retail management back in May 2005 to start writing full-time, and that's exactly what I do. I write primarily in the mornings, and spend the rest of the day answering emails, promoting, chatting and doing other things related to my writing career. In between, I try and have a life. LOL
HH: What do you enjoy most about being a storyteller? NJW: I'm constantly amazed that I get to do this for a living. It's been an incredible three years since my first book was published in October 2004. It's changed my life in so many ways, I can't begin to describe them all. The contact with other authors and especially readers has been amazing. It's always a thrill when a reader says that they enjoyed one of my books. I still have to pinch myself to know that this is real and not just a dream. I'm loving it!
HH: What would you like for readers to know about you? NJW: LOL That's a hard one. I'm an ordinary woman who happens to be lucky enough to have an amazing job. I want to thank all the readers for their support and encouragement and let them know that I have no plans to stop writing any time soon. I have so many stories to tell and can't wait to share them with you all.
