Josh has been held for two years by the government, ever since he’d been released from Kir. The agency has told him that they are keeping him confined in order to make sure he’s going to be all right, but he knows it’s for another reason… they are hoping he’ll contact Kir so they can find and capture him. He doesn’t trust anyone, and has been holding back what he can just in case. Then a man named Brad comes to the door…

Kir is horrified when he finds out that Brad had come after Josh. He’s determined to rescue him, even if it means that he will be in danger. Josh is one of the few people that he cares about, and he’s not about to leave him to his fate. Will he be too late to save him from Brad?

This is a story that is not for the faint at heart, the situation is dark and there are some pretty heavy issues that are explored. Josh is mentally and physically abused at the hands of Brad, and it involves some forced sex. Zombie is one of those books that grabbed my attention immediately, I liked both characters and they seem to grow emotionally as the story moves on. I also like the fact that neither Josh nor Kir recovers from their mental wounds quickly and with little effort. What is done to them takes a long time and patience to heal, and I liked that kind of reality. That kind of storytelling is what drew me in, because they are both so wounded, and they react like I would imagine a real person would. Kir is remarkably patient and understanding about Josh; Josh is like a wounded animal, and he takes a long time to heal, if at all. I really liked how Joely Skye handles the mind controlling abilities of her characters, it really made me stop and think about what would really happen to someone controlled that way. Zombie is not your normal formula romance, but it’s a fantastic story, and I will defiantly be on the look out for the next one in this intriguing series.
