| Brance Brenneman is a quiet, reserved Union deserter. He and his more gregarious Confederate mate Caleb Chilson are both bobcats. They’ve had about as much pain caused by humans they can stand. Both are hoping they’ve found a spot to settle in away from humanity when they find three hunters in their woods. The hunters are determined to get some bobcat skins to sell. Caleb is caught in a wire snare while hunting and Brance must find a way to protect his mate.
J.M. Snyder continues this journey of the two bobcat shifters in the forests of Pennsylvania. The two were on opposite sides in the Civil War when they met. Caleb saved Brance’s life after unwittingly helping to get him captured. The fact that they’re both shifters draws them together, the great sex helps but this time Brance has to decide how deep his feelings for Caleb really go. There’s much more information about Brance in this book. The last one, Under a Confederate Moon, centered more on Caleb and his background. Ms. Snyder does a great job building Brance’s character. His childhood sounds horrible. He grew up in one of those spare the rod, spoil the child kind of households where the father is a well respected public figure but changes in his home. The contrasts between the two men are well done as are the things that draw them together. The author does a great job building the scenarios, suspense, main as well as secondary characters and thought processes involved as Brance plans for the future and defends his lover. This is an erotic book that was hard to put down.
