Lina’s dream from childhood has been to be “normal,” just normal, just like everyone else. It didn’t happen then and life shows no promise of changing that now! For fifteen years, Lina’s been on the move from town to town, big city to big city, just as had her grandmother Merona before her. In actuality, Merona is still on the move with Lina; the only difference is she is a ghostly grandmother. Lina and Merona are witchy healers, with hearts full of compassion for folks in need. Neither can resist helping wherever possible, and that’s why she persistently is discovered and has to move on. Lina longs to find a true love of her own, and a place where she can finally settle down in her own home, live, love, and raise some children.

Merona suggests Lina stop at Unegi, Arizona, a town whose name means “ugly” in a Native language; Lina demurs until she meets Sheriff Trent Godfrey, a gorgeous Native American hunk whose handshake sends sparkles of electricity up and down her spine, and into whose eyes she feels herself falling. Merona has already told her she will find her destiny in Unegi, and if fate comes packaged like Trent, well then bring it on. Meeting Trent provides her with a potential apartment and a waitressing job in the restaurant owned by his mother, but still Lina hesitates. For one thing, she doesn’t appreciate the omen of the town’s name-“ugly”—and it’s such a small place she’s concerned it’ll be pitchfork-and-torch time in the ol’ town tonight if she steps out of line and performs a healing.

Few heroes impact the reader as strongly at first appearance as Sheriff Trent Godfrey, and this reviewer can only hope there are more like him where he came from! He is not only an impressively gorgeous hunk, but he has a great personality, compassion, and listens to his instincts and his heart. What more could any woman ask? Lina is a woman constantly driven from pillar to post, yet she persists and never lets go of her dream of stability and true love. Grandmother Merlona is a precious addition to the cast of characters, a ghost who at times is almost more rational than the live characters! Altogether Witch Hunt is an enjoyable and engrossing book, one I highly recommend!
