In 1864 Madison River Valley, Montana, Abigail Scotts felt deserted. Her husband, Henry, had left three weeks ago going to Ennis, the nearest town—five miles away—to order winter supplies. He never returned. Now, the storm that blew through the area the night before had left the barn down, the fencing flattened, and the herd of sheep missing.

Except for Blackie, the sheep dog, Abigail was alone; trying to round up her sheep, she struggled to pull one from a tangle in a bush. It was hard for her not to feel sorry for herself, but she forced herself to keep struggling with the sheep. A group of men heard the noises being made and, aware of bandits in the area, were cautious because of the gold they were transporting into Ennis. Dusty Johannsen sent some of the men on into the town with the gold and told them to send help if they did not make it into town.

That was the way Abigail and Dusty met—each carrying secrets from their past, but both starving for attention. As the title suggested, A Widow’s Justice, Henry had been attacked by the bandits; however, the town did not know him nor did they know to notify his widow.

These two main characters were strong and, clearly, meant for each other. Their personalities were believable and it was feasible that the reader was right in the middle of all the shocking happenings in the area of that little cabin and storm ravaged farm. I was impressed with Ms. Grady’s plot and her incredible way of telling her story. I will admit that I was certainly surprised, not only at the ending, but the entire slant of the story. I highly recommend this book for a fast-paced, sensual read that will leave you with a “feel-good” sensation.
