| Whips and Whispers is the story of Morgan Grant. Morgan has a dark side. She enjoys being dominated. While working on her job as a real estate agent she goes out to an old gothic looking house, Brighton Manor. While she is there a man approaches her and binds her hands then uses his hands to bring her to climax. It is dark and he speaks in whispers, something about the situation appeals to Morgan. She finds that even though she does not even know his name she would do anything he commands. When she returns to her office a few days later, she is introduced to Simon Jones. He turns out to be her mysterious stranger and their relationship begins as he teaches her to be a perfect slave. Even though he whips her and brings others in to use her, she finds she is addicted to this relationship. When young women go missing in the area she begins to wonder if Simon has anything to do with the disappearances; especially when one of the women was last spotted getting into his car. When Detective Michael O’brien starts asking questions about Simon Morgan finds she is becoming afraid.
Whips and Whispers is titled for the things Morgan enjoys. The fear and excitement she feels as Simon whispers his commands and the whippings where she thinks she will not be able to stand it another moment. This story seems very dark at times. It is hard to read if you look at what is done to Morgan as demeaning and violent. But everything that is done to her she consents to and does not ask to be released. There is the available safe word she could use but chooses not to. She is a person that becomes excited by fear and uses pain as a way to increase her pleasure. Simon is mysterious and it is hard to see what he does to Morgan as loving her. They are two very interesting characters that are used to demonstrate a situation of bondage and submission that at times borders on sadomasochism. The writing of Maria Isabel Pita describes what the characters are feeling and you learn what it is like to crave the unusual. The element of the missing women in the story adds fear for the reader ensnaring your mind into the dark and frightening world Morgan finds herself. It is a creative and interesting story that will have you on the edge of your seat with worry for Morgan as the mystery unfolds. This story is for those that do not mind the world of BDSM and will not become offended by violence or seemingly demeaning actions toward women.
