Celia Jade weaves an excellent tale of intrigue and romance in a land that is both modern and reminiscent of the middle ages. They have hot and cold running water but no electricity. There are gypsies, wizards, fairies, and people who have a liberated view of shared work to make the domain run smoothly. Egan rules with a fair hand and steadily woos Kyla with more patience than one would expect in the times.

The nasty Cairn is a villain but the scenario where he bites off more than he can chew and is bested by Kyla is a lot of fun. We can almost see the scene play out with the author¢s gifted scene building. The country and people come alive under her pen and make the pages fly by as we get involved with the story. Dialogue and encounters between Egan and Kyla are usually fun and become sensuous and erotic as he starts to win her trust. The two are well matched so we know it¢s only a matter of time before she succumbs to the feelings between them.

This is a great storyline with a well constructed plot and a land that would be fun to visit in other tales about the people we meet throughout the pages.
