Delaney Byrd worked for the USO. Her assignment before this present one in Florida was a year in Japan. She had a bed buddy, a Marine pilot, who was deployed when she returned to the States. She hadn't talked to him since, but she also hadn't gotten over him. Their relationship was nothing except great sexual chemistry. They never appeared in public together. While in a local bar one night, the bartender trying to pick her up, he was told in no uncertain terms that Delaney wasn't available.

Captain Garrick "Palatin" Stark was a Texan as well as a Marine pilot. He had never gotten over her nor had he been able to find her. When he found she was also in Pensacola, he was determined to find her. However, this time things would be different. He refused to fall into bed with her immediately—he wanted a committed relationship. He was willing to put work into their future together.

Ms. Aliyah Burke has written a fun-loving, fast-paced book about a couple who started out wrong and went downhill from there. The characters were well developed, typically Marine and USO material. They had great personalities and got along well with others. They, however, had a block between them about where their relationship was going. Instead of working on the relationship, Burke showed the poignant display as their individuality seemed to be afraid to acknowledge the importance of their bond.

There were secondary characters that played major parts in the story. The main couple, however, was emotionally charged. The sensuality was scorching. It was not over-the-top. It was a great part of the storyline and effective. There was a surprise ending that I did not see coming.

I recommend this book to adults who enjoy a great romance—with a backdrop of military action. You will certainly be glad to have read it.
