| Patrick O’Rourke (Rourke) lived his childhood in poverty. He made his money by picking pockets. He was unaware of the identity of his latest prospect until after he hit upon Prime Minister Gladstone. When his trial came up, the PM testified for him and took him into his own custody. He sent him to an orphanage, Roxbury House, a Quaker orphanage, where Gladstone was on the Board of Directors. This would give Rourke a chance to live a decent life.
When Katherine was eleven years old, she was first exposed to her father’s drinking and gambling. He “lost” her pride and joy, Princess, her pony given to her for her birthday before her mother died. She spent the rest of her life, up to age seven and twenty, trying to keep their home and her younger sister, afloat. She even hired herself out for pictures so that she would have a little pen money to pay for household expenses. She had no one to depend upon. She over-indulged her sister, Bea. All that assured was that even her sister took advantage of her. Kate had no one to care for her or love her. Then she met Rourke... Untamed is Book III of “The Men of Roxbury House Trilogy”. The first two books were previously reviewed but the fact that this was part of that trilogy was a welcome surprise. As I read this great book, I kept thinking that I knew these people. There circumstances were familiar to me. After a while, I researched and found that, indeed, this was the finale of that marvelous trilogy written by Ms. Hope Tarr. This book can stand alone or be read in any order. The previous ones introduced Gavin and Daisy and Callie and Hadrian, who are the marvelous subordinate members of this cast. Katherine (Kate) and Patrick (Rourke) were the main characters in this book and their story was absolutely fabulous. This storyline is extraordinary. Great job, Ms. Tarr. You have definitely created a follower. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves historical romance. You will definitely not be sorry.
