| Leda has been ordered by her Reverend Mother of her house to use her fae gifts to find a book. The alchemist’s bible. Their elder Sensosai, wants to book. It contains all kinds of recipes for weapons of destruction that he wants to use to destroy the plain kind. Her only lead sends her to find a former soldier, Grayhawke Tams. Due to losing a bar brawl, and unable to pay the damages, Gray becomes Leda’s indentured servant to help her find the book. And while the sparks fly between the two, Gray wants nothing to do with an elemental after losing his brother in their tests to become a mage.
Ms. Zannini has created a wonderfully vibrant world full or details and robust characters. Readers are given a look into a possible future for our world. The plot is intricately detailed and full of suspense. Touch of Fire has all the elements of a great epic story. There is so much love, loss and sacrifice. This story had me laughing, then crying, sad, then ecstatic. The emotions are pouring off the pages so much that you can’t help but feel them too. While the love scenes are not plentiful, they sure pack a punch. Leda and Gray’s relationship is very volatile. There are so many issues with trust and love between them, but when they ignore the world around them, there are sparks galore between them also. Not only are there so many impressive characters, but they all play an integral part in the story. Each character has a life and a purpose of their own. The characters are fully developed and truly fit the story. This book is not for the tame of heart. There are some violent scenes that may not be suited to certain people. However, the story as a whole is phenomenal. While some may not enjoy reading stories with that kind of violence, it adds credence to the characters and their ability to overcome adversity and for good to triumph over evil.
