Sara Donovan was a foster child who found her life's work as a pilot in the United States Air Force. Her assignment takes her well beyond the Milky Way on an exploration of the far reaches of other galaxies. Caught in the long and bitter fight between the Dusan and the Gadi, Sara's craft is shot down and she lands safely on a small inhospitable planet. There she meets a humanoid alien named Kiernan Fyn. After Fyn helps her and they are rescued by her fleet, Sara and Fyn must continue to avoid capture. Interested in each other, will they be able to keep their secrets and still find their way back home?

The Key was a fascinating book about several different civilizations and their differences. Sara has lost knowledge of many parts of her past which will be revealed in The Key. She also has some strange abilities which she's afraid to express. She and Fyn slowly begin to show an attraction to each other that turns into love. There is nothing explicit in either the language or sex, which is appropriate for this author. I enjoyed following the seamless plot. There were many characters, good and bad, on all sides of the plot, with most of the characters filling important roles. Sara was a wonderful character, I could have seen her walk right out of the book. Fyn was less interesting I would have liked him to be more alien in his depiction. I loved the development of love between Sara and Fyn. Ms. Jones wrote a wonderful book. I will certainly put her on my to be read list.
