Josie Galloway lives in a small town near Yosemite National Park called Mariposa and she loved the serene surroundings. One night she had a horrid dream and Josie was thrown from her bed by the force of it. There were visions of a man being murdered in a very brutal way. Being a Wiccan Priestess she knew what she had dreamed… what she felt was all too real. The next morning Josie found bruises all over her body and a mark between her breasts a sigil- it was a sigil of a triskele, a Wiccan symbol. The spirit of the murdered man had reached out in death and bonded with her.

Sheriff Doug Brewster stood looking at the body of Elijah Miller, who had been beaten to death. Eli had been a member of The Brotherhood of Freedom, and from the symbol bruised into Eli’s chest, Doug knew there was more to this than just a white supremacy group. This was evil, it made him feel very uneasy. Doug had heard that Josie had some kind of tattoo on her chest and it gave him a very bad feeling. He had to see it and find out if it looked like the one on Eli. It looked like a ritual symbol and Josie was a witch.

Josie looked like hell, four nights with little to no sleep from the nightmares was showing on her. The bruise showed no sign of going away. This spirit was tortured and very scared. She had to find away to help him move on. Having the sheriff questioning her didn’t help. Josie was drawn to Doug in ways she just didn’t need right now. She wouldn’t let herself get close to anyone any more. Not after what happened before. She had to stay far away from Doug Brewster.

Doug felt a strong attraction towards Josie, but he wouldn’t get involved with her. He couldn’t bring a witch home, not with his mother’s religious beliefs. Doug couldn’t bring himself to cause her any more hurt than he already had. On top of that, it looked like Josie was involved with this murder. Even if she was the most beautiful and desirable woman he’d ever seen. He had a murder to solve and Josie was connected somehow.

This is one of the most intriguing stories I had the pleasure of reading in quite a while. I love a good who-done-it and this story will have you spellbound. I couldn’t stop reading. The story is really several tragedies that come to a boil when a murder brings Doug and Josie together. Both carry ghosts from their past that haunt them. The Brotherhood is hiding something big and nothing seems to be right anymore. Will Doug and Josie bury the past and give love a chance? Who is the real killer? The Brotherhood, or maybe Josie? Or could it be someone no one knew about? T.L. Schaefer shows a great talent with her book The Brotherhood. Her story is three-dimensional in that it tells a story with more than one subject line and the reader can follow the plots evenly as the story unfolds before you. Ms. Schaefer is a superb writer and I look forward to reading more of her books. This one is a keeper. Be sure and get your copy today and also get her book called The Summerland, the first book in this story and find out how it all began. Enjoy!
