Lucy Brooklehurst was a single, almost-thirty-year-old woman who worked at Weldon & Son’s Financial Incorporation. Her lifestyle was fast-paced and upscale. As a financial planner (sold stocks and bonds), her sporty BMW was her pride and joy. Her biggest problem was that, after being saved four years ago, she had not had a single date. She waited and waited for God to send His special “one” for her and He finally did—the church she attended had a new youth pastor, Carter Lovelace. Lucy was convinced that he was her answer to prayer. Unfortunately, she wasn’t the only single woman who thought so.

While she shadowed his activities, including volunteering to work with the youth group, Lucy waited for God to help Pastor Carter to realize what an asset she would be to his ministry. She kept seeing another young man, Edgar Flowers, who always had his mother in tow. When Lucy heard her name (Iris Flowers) she snorted which did not endear her to Edgar’s mom. They continued to have problems, even when it seemed that Edgar was serious about Lucy. Mrs. Flowers was always there to cause extra problems.

Ms. Georgiana Daniels has written a poignant look into the life of a Christian woman who set her sights higher than some and expected to be rewarded for her ‘goodness.’ Ms. Daniels wrote as if she had personally lived through this experience. She related the angst and despair that an older single woman might go through. The story, while extremely interesting, did drag in spots. At times it became painful (made me cry) to read.

The characters were so real to life that I actually felt that I was involved in her story from the romance part to the office situations. It presented the facts well that being a Christian does not always make things easy. It also shows that God answers prayers but not always in the manner we expected.

I recommend the book. It will make you laugh and cry and laugh again. Overall, the emotional story will stay with me for a long while.
