| The leader of Adras agrees to give his daughter Tiesa to the leader of Amal to help bring peace to their world. Tiesa finds Arcen, the Amalian leader, a suitable mate until she meets A’kin his adopted son. Political maneuverings of the leader of Thebe threatens to destroy any alliance.
This writing duo has done a great job inventing new worlds, empathic mounts for the people and new terminology in an excellent story of love and intrigue. There’s great detail about the thoughts and history of the main characters. Any parent would probably breathe a sigh of relief that at least our kids didn’t do what Tiesa did as a child! Both lovers are strong, bold people loyal to their world and their parents. The battle A’kin wages to hide his love for Tiesa is noble and heroic.. The author helps him bite his tongue and walk away until he’s forced into protecting her. Only the belief that they are going to die without her knowing of his love can loosen his resolve. The story is made more complex by all the political intrigue going on. Mash, the leader of Thebe and his henchman will stop at nothing to prevent the union. This is one of the better books of the year for me. There’s catchy dialogue, suspense, fun and surprising twists we don‘t expect. Except for the vipers. Like Harrison Ford, I hate snakes! But even snakes can’t detract from the excellence of the story.
