Someone tried to murder Alyssa Carrington but they didnft quite finish the job. Alyssafs body is now lying in the hospital in a coma but her spirit is somehow free to roam around to try to help the police catch the man. Detective Sam Carsonfs sister was murdered the same night and just blocks from where Alyssa was found. For some reason Sam can hear Alyssa and she begins to try to help him piece together the puzzle of who wants her dead and why his sister was killed. But time is running out and neither of them know if Alyssa will be able to return to her body and live when this is over and that is becoming an issue the more time these two spend together.

The Spirit Within is a wonderfully creative and imaginative story of a womanfs spirit allowed to roam around and try to solve her own attempted murder. Alyssafs character is very strong willed, compassionate, and intelligent. She needs all of these characteristics to survive her ordeal. Sam is also compassionate, determined, and smart but he is a little disturbed by a ghostly voice talking to him. Sam does get over that and he and Alyssa even manage to have a relationship even though she is in a spirit form. But Sam and Alyssa have a limited amount of time to solve the crime. Alyssa canft stay out of her body forever and the killer could decide to finish the job at any time.

I was intrigued by this story from the first page. How is a ghost going to get a police detective to believe in her first and then pursue who she thinks is behind the crime? And how can a ghost and a man have a relationship but that is what is developing as Alyssa and Sam spend time talking? If you want to read a very entertaining romantic suspense with a twist story, then read The Spirit Within!
