Kayla is the beautiful half-goddess -– daughter of Herne -- sent to Sorin secretly by her father and the other Guardians to act as his bodyguard against a hidden enemy. Sorin and Kayla are immediately attracted to each other, and it doesn’t take Sorin long to realize that Kayla is the mate he’s been waiting for. However, things are not that simple.

I really enjoyed this story. There are a lot of little puzzles for the reader to solve throughout the plot. The relationship between all of the characters is complex and not readily discernable at first, especially given some of their interactions. Also, there is a bit of mystery concerning the details surrounding Kayla’s birth and heritage. Then of course there is the question about who is trying to harm Sorin and why. The plot was intriguing, fast-paced, and well written and yes, steamy in all the right places.
