Reed Mercier and Sara Patel are both professors at Mystic Ridge University. They’re also competing against each other for the Montera assignment. Neither had anticipated having to share it, but that’s just what happens when the committee decides to split the Montera Grant between them. Spending Halloween night together at the Montera mansion makes them face their mutual attraction while fending off the spirits haunting the house.

From the very beginning the chemistry between Reed and Sara jumps right off the pages. The air sizzles and sparks fly whenever they’re in the same room. Sara tries to hide behind antagonism whenever Reed is around because pushing him away is the only way she can resist his charm. Reed, on the other hand, maintains his graciousness and refuses to be put off by Sara’s prickly attitude. Instead, he melts Sara’s resistance, along with readers’ hearts, when he capitalizes on their isolation at the Montera mansion.

While I sympathized with Sara, Reed’s charm immediately won me over. His easy going attitude is a perfect contrast to Sara’s apparent uptight behavior and they balance each other out. However, I doubt they would have found their way to each other without being thrown together like they were. And though having a hero and heroine trapped alone together is not a new plot device, the author does a great job of making it unique in this story.
