Rand tries to heal after losing his parents. One day he hopes to fill the empty void. In a way he’s afraid to love anyone again for fear of loss. Living in London , he lives a simple life, from paycheck to paycheck. Prior to his job as chimney sweep, Rand was scared of heights, then after some cleaning experiences he got over it. Kaelyn was once a maid for the Ruthferds. When a terrible fire broke out, she was trapped, unable to get free. The chimney became her prison. She waits for the one man to return and give her life again. She feels someone’s presence and wonders has he come back for her. Rand goes to clean the chimney for the Ruthferds when he hears a shout that almost stops his heart. He figures it nothing and proceeds to clean, only to hear a voice pleading for him not to leave her. Before Rand knows what hits him, Kaelyn has entered his life. She wants to unlock the mystery that holds her captive. Together they search for answers as the passion between them explodes.

I must say this story sent chills through me especially when Kaelyn says she will be good if she is released. It was so genuine I just wanted to stretch my hand through the pages and pull her out. My heart went out to her, as well as to Rand . I could share in his loss and there were times I wanted to just hold him in my arms. With some twists and turns and spine-tingling moments, Secrets in the Annex engages the reader. I like the way Ann Cory incorporates paranormal into the story. She always sketches stories that really grab hold of the reader, taking them on a spellbinding journey of riveting events.
