| Ex-detective and half-demon Conall Macmillan has a lot to make up for since he lost his humanity and betrayed his friends after being infected by a demon, is it possible or is he a lost cause? The paranormal community doesn't think he can retain his humanity and send him to the Castle, a supernatural prison. In the Castle, Mac meets an unusual vampire that doesn't seem to have ever completely turned. Constance needs Mac's help to save her kidnapped son. Maybe a case that give Mac a reason to use his talents is just what Mac needs to hang on to his last bit of humanity or will this particular case be what actually drive Mac over the edge...
In this sequel to Ravenous, Mac gets a chance to redeem himself. At the beginning, it was a little bit of a hard sell. Mac's betrayal of his friends was hard to forgive and I found it difficult to change my mind set from Mac as a bad guy to Mac as a hero but Sharon Ashwood is a master storyteller and I think she could make me believe anything! I also really liked the twist of a vampire that never quite turned and manages to maintain her sense of innocence and goodness. Constance is a very unusual character and I really liked the different portrayal of this unique vampire. In this tale, the reader learns a lot more about the Castle and its inhabitants as well as that the supernatural characters in Ms. Ashwood's stories are multidimensional and it is hard to second guess this author. I ended up loving Mac and Constance and definitely think they deserved their own story. I can't wait for a third adventure in Ms. Ashwood's unique and twisted version of the world!
