Beth Whitney is the Central Administrative Agent (read secretary) for TGP, and ultra secret branch of the government. Her father is the head of the agency and spent her growing up years as an active field agent. Her mother is a powerful lobbyist, so Beth pretty much raised herself. She has been fantasizing about one of the agents since she started work here, but after a bad bad experience, she will never date another agent of any kind. Imagine her surprise when her father strolls into the office with not only the man of her dreams, Ethan Crane, but also, the man who left her at the altar three years before, Alan Hyatt. Her father plans to send her out into the field with Ethan on a very important mission and she has to pose as his live in lover. This will try all of her resolutions.

I was hooked on this novel from the first page, and really annoyed my family when I couldn’t put it down. Beth and Ethan are very compelling characters. Beth is very insecure with good reason; first her parents and then her fiancé didn’t feel that she was important enough to adjust their lives for. She is afraid to try another relationship after being left at the altar without a word. Ethan is different from the rest of his family as well, but never felt unloved. He, in fact, makes an effort to be with his family at holidays and important occasions, but Beth is too scared to see that he might be different. Ethan is equally afraid of what he is feeling, but a little braver about going after what he wants. Aside from the romance, the suspenseful plot of this novel will keep you on the edge of your seat. Prescott is a truly evil man as are his customers for the auction. The reader will definitely feel their skin crawl just like Beth when he enters a scene. The DEA agent Rachel Gannon, definitely needs more time in print, as does the ex fiancé Alan, so I can’t wait to read more of this author’s work.
