Jenny Waring was an ordinary girl who managed to disarm and kill three bad guys to save herself and her National Park coworkers.

British Intelligence doesn’t believe it, and Kier McAllister takes Jenny to Galloway, Scotland, and tries to discover who really trained her to kill. He’s tough, single minded, in control. Yet he is attracted to Jenny.

Jenny finally convinces Kier of the truth. Their strong physical attraction is undeniable. despite the odd start to their relationship. But the Agency seems to still wants Jenny. They feel her natural ability would make a great operative. Or maybe the Agency is out to get Kier. So Jenny and Kier are now on the run together.

While Kier is too “manly” early on, he does develop into a more likable character. He starts by believing being the best is everything, second best is nothing. He is good at his job, getting the truth out of government suspects. But, because of Jenny, he know sees the the human consequences of this action.

John Dawson is an Agency worker whose humanity develops before that of Kier. He is married to a successful travel writer he seldom sees or connects with. He is a great supporting cast member.

Matthew Christopher Kendrick is in Kier’s line of work. Is he out to discredit Kier and take over? Other government entities seem intent on using Kendrick for their own personal gains.

Jenny’s brother Alan plays a role, as does Kier’s old buddy Bradley, now working in airline security.

There is some discussion of the Stockholm Syndrome, the relationship between captor and captive. While Jenny was likable and realistic, I found Kier’s bullying nature to be a bit extreme and unattractive.

The action at the climax is full of action and suspense. The author does a great job of pacing her story and revealing the “truth” behind the Agency’s plan.
