| History is brought to life in this superb account of medieval life in the fifteenth century. The Rose of York – Love and War stitches a tapestry of family discord between brothers, cousins and even husband and wife. The obvious conflict, The War of the Roses, is the backdrop for a love story which spanned ten years, culminating in the un-blessed union of Richard of Gloucester and Anne Nevelle, daughter of Warwick – the Kingmaker. The reader will feel, as I did, that surely they can put the book down after the next chapter ends – but that won't be the case. They'll become so entrenched in the drama that time will catch them completely unaware. Though Sandra Worth follows the history texts, this novelization was balanced with cleverness and an eye for the romantic.
