Holly Carrington was all set to accept the promotion her boss was offering until a devastating phone call ruined her chances of rising up the ranks. Now she's the sole parent to her niece and is back in her hometown to oversee renovations on her old family home before she sells it. However, her hometown brings back memories she'd rather wish she could forget.

Quinn Manning is the man for the renovation job. But on seeing Holly again, he isn't sure it's in his best interest to take the job, especially when one decision by him years ago left her heartbroken.

The plot of this book was amazing. There were a lot of ups and downs for both Holly and Quinn as they revisited the past and with Holly suffering the loss of her sister and brother-in-law. Also, gaining sole custody of her niece hadn't made things easy for her. The dialogue was excellent, and I enjoyed reading how well Holly managed, considering she was grieving. Caring for a child is hard enough when you're not used to it, and to add her grief on top it wouldn't have been easy. The sex scenes were hot, and I liked how Holly had saved herself for Quinn. It seemed as if she knew she'd find her way back to him in the end, which was why she'd waited just as she'd promised. While with Quinn, I enjoyed how determined he was to see through the renovations, even though he was fighting his feelings for Holly and thought it best to stay away.

Overall, Ms. James has again impressed me with her writing and I can't wait to read more of this author's work in the future. A Risk Worth Taking was a very enjoyable story that I would recommend to all romance readers. However, just make sure you have tissues available when you do sit down to read this as you may need them.
