Burke Stewart, Duke Ravensthorpe has recently returned from the dead to take his rightful place at the head of his family, to try and save them from any further gossip or scandal. He soon realizes just how bad his financial situation has gotten; the only choice he sees to save them is to marry a rich heiress. The only problem is he has just met Phoebe Walcott and is drawn to her. Phoebe is not a rich Heiress; in fact, she needs to be rescued herself.

Phoebe is in need of rescue quickly. Her brother is trying to sale her hand in marriage off to the highest bidder to help him pay off all of his gambling debts. When she meets Burke at a party, she decides she wants him to be her hero. The only problem is convincing him.

Burke and Phoebe are drawn to each other, but there are so many obstacles in the their way. Can they over come the scandals in both their families and can they over come the attempts of a mad man to destroy Burke.

Ms. Stang has written a very good story. It was a great suspenseful tell that will keep the reader anxiously waiting to see how it will all turn out. The characters are well written, and wonderful. Burke and Phoebe are great together, their characters compliment each other so well and their growing love for one another is sweet. But the secondary characters are so strong in this story; they are just a moving. I loved them all. This is a great, very suspenseful, love story that will keep the reader immersed in its pages to the end.
