|Sarelle McGarran finds an injured man on her property. As a young widow, living alone in the country, she's skeptical about helping him. Especially when she learns he's a vampire. But she's used to helping strays and saves his life. Danial Racklan has some loyal friends and some dangerous enemies. As his connection with Sarelle grows, his past leads her deeper into his dangerous world. Bodyguards, violent attacks, and non-human creatures invade Sar's quiet country retreat. Do Sar and Danial have a chance for a life together?
Promise Me is a vampire love story unlike anything else I have read. This is a true romance but the fact that her would-be lover is an important and dangerous vampire steps up the risks of any lasting relationship between them. I like Sar's introspection and hesitation when it comes to letting Danial into her life. The more she learns about him, the more hesitant she becomes but she is forced by circumstances to make some life changing decisions and you feel everything along with her.
The writing is well done and the actions of Danial's enemies are intricately woven into the story line. Sar is a strong woman and her reaction to the dangers is consistent. Danial has loved, and lost loved ones to death, several times over his long lifetime and he is gentle and patient with the woman he now wants as his own. I enjoyed the book but thought the ending was missing something until I realized Promise Me is the first of the Promise Me Series by Tara Fox Hall. And as a side note; look out for Ms. Fox's foxes, they have a special place in the story. There are a lot of complications standing in the way of a life together and I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series. Promise Me is a keeper.
