Fifteen years ago, Erin Martin's younger sister was murdered and Jillian's boyfriend has been convicted and in prison this entire time. Erin moved out of state when her parents divorced but she has returned to California to take care of her teen-aged sister Kayla after her mother's death. Former FBI profiler Mark Wesson believes that the murderer is not safely incarcerated but that he is still on the loose committing more crimes. Right from their first meeting, sparks fly and not just because Erin doesn't want to believe the wrong man has been sitting in jail all these years. Can the two work together to find the identity of the real killer before Erin becomes the sadist's next portrait?

This was one fantastic suspense story and I could not put it down. I completed this in one sitting even though it was much too late and my eyesight was blurry but I just couldn't stop reading until I came to the end. I enjoyed everything about this book. The plot was well-paced and the characters terrifically developed. The description was detailed without being distracting. I found myself torn between feeling sorry for the antagonist and wanting to see him suffer as much as his victims. He was so complex and I couldn't help but applaud the fact that the author went beyond a cliched killer and introduced us to the creation of a true monster. Mark Wesson is a perfect hero; he has classic good looks a tragic past and he fights for injustice. What more could you ask for in a man? Erin is a strong heroine; someone I can relate to and look up to at the same time. I loved her niece Kayla, she was my favorite character in the whole story. Here was a genuine teenage girl, not some whiny little clotheshorse throwing a temper tantrum every ten seconds. I think I would recommend this to some mature fans of the Young Adult genre as they would probably enjoy it for the insight into a troubled teen. This is a must-read for those who enjoy romantic suspense.
