Brendan, Tuck, and Jamie are the last to leave Antarctica when a blizzard rumbles through their area. In Antarctica for a research project, the three men have limited provisions. Knowing they’ll not last the winter, they ration everything but the liquor someone left behind. With nothing left to do but drink until their not scared anymore and tensions and lust for one another at an all time high, they quickly find fun things to keep themselves busy. For Brendan, who always claimed to be straight, this left him more confused and struggling with his sexuality. For Brendan, the fling in icy Antarctica raises far more questions than he really cares to answer about himself.

You just have to love it when three men are stranded in Antarctica together! Just the story's concept will draw you in, then the love story begins and you are hooked. The wind against the structure the three men were housed in and the descriptions of the snow when the men did finally make it outside were fascinating. Ms. Thompson used Jamie’s fear affectively to describe the weather conditions further. Claire Thompson has a knack for writing great characters and she doesn’t disappoint with Polar Reaction. Even though she writes about three guys all stuck together, they each have very distinct personalities. Each is likable and endures himself onto the reader at the first introduction. Claire Thompson proves herself with this unconventional romance. It’s the storyline with Brendan that really seals it though. Brendan is the straight guy of the group, or so he thinks, until he gets stuck with Tuck and Jamie. The coming-out-of-the-closet stories are much loved by this reviewer and Brendan’s story is certainly that. The conflict comes into play when Brendan struggles with his sexuality and Claire Thompson shows her skill as a writer with this. Polar Reaction is a must read for anyone who loves gay romance.
