A terrible automobile accident had seriously injured and almost killed Molly Keating. Firefighter Mick Knight had saved her life, staying with her for hours in her wrecked car until she could finally be pulled free and even visiting her in the hospital.

When Mick reluctantly appears in a charity fundraiser several years later, Molly buys a date with him in order to take him to dinner and express her gratitude in person. Even though her memories of that day are scattered and chaotic, she remembers Mick's voice.

Mick has a reputation as a playboy and a man who changes dates as often as he changes socks. Mick was well aware that his career often led to an early grave and had long ago made up his mind to remain alone rather than inflict the pain on others that his father's death had inflicted on him.

But when Mick sees the pain and hesitancy in Molly's eyes, he decides to try to restore what self-confidence he can to this very special woman.

This is my first exposure to author Rose Middleton and I will be actively looking for her books in the future. Molly is a troubled and yet inwardly very strong heroine who only needed a push to show that iron spine. Mick is a very heroic man who doesn't see his career as so much heroism as self-sacrifice. The sex scenes were steamy and well written and I really enjoyed seeing them lose their inhibitions with each other. Their mutual desire to help one another is inspiring and the epilogue was a terrific statement to their own growth and love.
