Kala Vandergriff worked part-time at the Whitehaven Welcome Center. As a widow for eleven months, she tried to keep her head above water. Her four children had families of their own, so she didn’t want to bother them with her problems. When she had major car damages to pay for, her mechanic recommended she take a course offered at the local technical school for general car maintenance. She felt foolish, but this was necessary if she was going to keep her five-year-old Buick running.

Major employment and family changes left Rex Ruffner running home to pick up the pieces and try to make a new beginning for himself. A friend from the local school talked him into teaching a short course on car maintenance to adult students. Unsure of anything except that he could use the money, he agreed. Out of the six students in his class, one was a man, four women who were interested in more than cars, and then one he would be interested in if he was looking for a woman in his life.

Ms. Linda Swift has excelled in this fast-paced work set around the holiday season. Her main characters were struggling to start over. The poignant look at these two lives was so realistic that it quickly became real. The supporting cast was believable and added much to the storyline.

I can honestly say this story did not turn out as I would have thought, but it was a beautiful ending. I highly recommend this book.
