Tom called Ben on a secured line used only for emergencies. This meant either Tom was in trouble or he was. He once worked with Tom in their security agency. After Ben's wife was murdered by a terrorist almost two years ago, Ben went into isolation. Staying undercover and in a round about way, he went to the hotel in L.A. When he arrived at his room, he found a woman on the floor, propped up against his door. He finally figured out she was sick and so he would not draw attention to himself, he took her into his room. She turned out to be an ex-lover from ten years ago. Meeting Grace was accidental but what happened later was not.

This was edge-of-your-seat suspense. The author, after filling in some background info on the characters, stuck to the plot and kept it going forward and of course climaxing into a good ending. I liked Ben. He was a tough guy who buried his feelings but inside was grieving for his wife. Grace was smart and resourceful, living to help other people while keeping her problems to herself. Together they were explosive.
