I had already purchased this book from the Loose Id website before I received the submission for review. I'd read the first book in this series, THE SOCIETY 1 - REGULATING ARCHIMEDES, by Brenda Bryce and loved it so much that I have been checking the site periodically watching for the release of THE SOCIETY 2 - MIDAS' TREASURE. Of all the vampire books out there, Ms. Bryce has a unique take on vampirism that makes her books stand out from all the rest. I had high expectations before I even began reading. I wasn't disappointed.

While MIDAS' TREASURE stands alone so that you don't have to read REGULATING ARCHIMEDES to enjoy it, you should read REGULATING ARCHIMEDES just because it is such a great book. It has you laughing out loud one minute and sitting on the edge of your chair in the next. It certainly earned a five heart rating in my book. Steven and Angela do make an appearance in MIDAS' TREASURE, but they are introduced to us so you don't have to have read the first book to understand them. Both books are available at Loose Id.

MIDAS' TREASURE is about Mykil Votad finding his mate, Aileen Slipsworthy. He has to teach her to feed and survive by learning to use her new vampire powers. First, he has to convince her that turning her into a vampire was the best thing for her. She isn't an easy sell. Mykil is most irritated that his best friends find his lessons for his mate to be so funny. I can't blame them, I laughed right along with them. But before Mykil and Aileen can settle down to happily ever after, they have to deal with the scumbag who used to be Aileen's alleged boyfriend until she caught him in her bed with another woman. He didn't even have the decency to cheat on her at his own apartment!

Oh, yeah, and if that's not enough, there's also a rogue vampire trying to kill them all.

Ms. Bryce has written another winner with this second installment in The Society series, MIDAS' TREASURE. Once again, she has given us a tale that is by turns laugh-out-loud funny and then bite-your-nails suspenseful. I love this series and can't wait for the next one. I'm sure you will feel the same.
