| Troya Twamley writes about dead archeologists. A real live one comes into her life in the form of Tyre Rasmussen who wants her help. He shows her a journal by her hero in archeology and invites her to the dig site to help them interpret his writing and find the place he refers to. The two fall deeply into lust and the mystery surrounding the Mayan Underworld.
Ciar Cullen shows her history as an archeologist in the depth of detail she gives to this tale. It feels like she knows what she's talking about in things relating to archeological happenings, sites and laws. It doesn't hurt that the suspense is well built related to the strange occurrences around the site and the disappearance of one of the researchers. The dialogue among the primary characters is fun, funny, interesting and fits the circumstances they're talking about. Troya and Ty can be such tongue-twisted wanna be lovers who don't know how to say what they want that they're easy to relate to. The writer gives us two people who are educated, intelligent and gifted with flaws that make them feel like real people. Secondary characters like SinJin, Danny, Babs, Pete, Debbie and Jack all add another dimension to the tale. Ty has become the bad boy of the archeological community but the author uses their loyalty and personalities to show him in a different light. I really enjoyed this book. It has a lot of action, a lot of fun and a great build up to solving the mystery at the end. I haven’t read this author before but I’m sure I will look for more of her work in the future.
