| Cora Mae Tindale loved her twin step-brothers, Chance and Tucker. When they were twelve and she was merely nine, they ran off from her mother to join their daddy in the war. They promised to come back for her...but they never did. Now, twenty-one years later she needed a place to hide. She headed to the Morgan Ranch in Slippery Gulch, Wyoming. What she found surprised her.
Tucker was married, had a little boy and twins due any day. Skylar was thrilled to have help. Chance, however, unmarried and not interested in changing that, viewed her arrival more skeptically. His attraction to her didn’t make his suspicions any less. Cora Mae was hiding something and he knew he had to find out what. The twins hated their step-mother, Winifred, from the day their father brought her home. What Cora Mae didn’t know was that they had returned for her, but Winifred had already sold the place and disappeared. Cora Mae knew why they hated her mother. She had suffered the harsh actions and the same beatings as they. Hers did not stop when they ran away. She was a little girl, but she remembered the kindnesses her step-brothers showed her. She just needed a place to disappear for a while. Ms. Stacey Kayne has, once again, woven her magic with western historicals which happen to be my favorite. I am aware that I can be especially critical about this genre. Not so with Ms. Kayne’s work. She has a writing manner which literally grabs the attention of the readers and never lets go. Her main characters are so strong and so mesmerizing that there is no way to get bored and it’s almost impossible to put down the book. Her supporting characters are many and varied. They helped to make the story the success it is. Through the myriad of conflicts experienced by the cast, it was still a surprise to me how the story ended. I was thrilled with the book and highly recommend it to anyone who loves a great romance—regardless of genre.
