Mary's sister has been killed in a hit and run and Mary's family has taken advantage of her for years and years. Charles, Mary's brother-in-law, decides to hit on her after the funeral and wants Mary to marry him. He says that he made a mistake and tries to kiss her and go further. Mary wants nothing like that with him again and so takes Kiesha up on her job promotion and relocation to Refuge. Mary moves in to the apartment over the diner and meets Hugh, her landlord and owner of the diner. They have some instant attraction but don't act on it. Mary works on moving in and making the apartment her home.

I absolutely loved the characters and the storyline. I was drawn in from the very beginning of the story and I did not want to put it down once I started reading it. There was plenty going on in this story to keep my attention. Mary and Hugh are well-written characters and so are the other characters in the story. They are complicated and realistic. I loved the way that the characters interacted with each other. They had great personalities and it was fun reading about Mary trying to deny the connection and Hugh just as determined for it to work and going around her. There are plenty of twists and turns in this story and enough action. The sex is explicit and frequent but not overly so. A connection was there from the beginning and emotions grew fast. I really enjoyed it and it just added to the story for me. This is part of a series, the third instalment. I would recommend reading the other books in the series because it does add to it and there is some of the story built on what has happened before. The main characters are different in each instalment but the previous characters are in the stories and do play a part. I really enjoyed this series and can't wait for more.
