| Janelle and Kevin Trent have spent lots of time and money on fertility treatments; their whole life together is consumed with having a baby. After 4 tries, Kevin can stand it no longer! The “couple” does not feel like a couple anymore—their lives revolve around shots and medicine and obsessing about becoming pregnant.
When Kevin came in from work and found Janelle giving herself another shot after her scheduled appointment with Dr. Katherine Ingras, the IVF specialist, he just snapped! He could not stand to see the woman he loved above all others suffering so much. He tried to explain to her that they needed to explore other options; their savings was gone, and their lives were almost non-existent. Ms. Braden has written a poignant story about how emotionally draining it can be to try to answer your own prayers! Janelle and Kevin believed that God would provide for them and that he could give them a child. However, it was easy to forget that He was there to help and even easier to just go about it all alone. There are few other characters in this novel; it is a look inside a troubled marriage and attempts on both sides to salvage their relationship. Ms. Braden shows deep insight into how individuals can drift apart when circumstances change in a marriage. She has managed this in quite a perceptive manner. Kudos to the author for her excellent story!
