| The loss of a child to still birth was the final straw in Susannah and Ryan Sanderson's marriage. Ryan is one of the most successful quarterbacks in the NFL and has the ego to match. They were childhood sweethearts and still love each other, but Susannah feels like more of an accessory than a wife.. The judge made them wait six months for the finalization and they are ten days away when Ryan comes home and says he wants to try again. Unfortunately Susannah is engaged to marry someone else at the end of the month. She agrees to give him the ten days until the final decree, and Ryan is determined to change her mind.
I really enjoyed this book. The main characters a debutante and an NFL quarterback are a great mix and the author gives enough football background to flesh out the tale without confusing readers unfamiliar with the sport. The author writes well about the stresses that fame and tragedy can have on a marriage, especially with Susannah's family and best friend, now fiancé, undermining Ryan every chance they got. Ryan's huge ego, fueled by his talent, intelligence, and good looks, didn't help things either. He is used to getting anything he wants and not thinking about any one else's needs.. I was quickly involved in the story and got caught up in the couple's problems and reconciliation. The drama that follows is very well written and realistic. I happen to be a big football fan, but even those that hate the game will love Ryan and Susannah's story.
