| When Lilly Manchester looks into the eyes of Slade
McCord, her father's new ranch hand, she often sees
pain and sadness lurking there. Other times, she
notices a terrible emptiness in them, and it breaks
her heart. She longs to comfort him, but whenever she
tries, Slade turns away.
Slade wants the beautiful, fiery Lilly, but because of a former love's betrayal, he refuses to allow her into his heart. And besides that, he has come to Arizona Territory on a sensitive and dangerous mission. Allowing Lilly to get close to him could put her in harm's way, and that's something Slade would never do. THE DIARY OF LILLIAN MANCHESTER I: THE STRANGER is a well-written, exciting start to Ms. Dane's series. This story is short, but don't worry, Ms. Dane never skimps on anything. Her plot and characters are vibrant and well developed. Slade is sexy, mysterious, and extremely hardheaded. Lilly, who's just as stubborn, refuses to let him walk away without giving their love a chance. Whenever these two get together, things really sizzle. While the ending feels complete and satisfying, it definitely leaves you hungry for the next story in this series. I highly recommend this quick, red-hot read.
