Scott Epstein is trying to make it in the cut throat world of acting. When his sister Claire, who runs a casting agency, decides that he would be perfect for a chewing-gum commercial Scott doesn’t hesitate to accept. Until he discovers that he will be working with Ian Sullivan, a young androgynous model that makes Scott feel things that a straight man shouldn’t but he decides that as a professional he can handle working with Ian, that is until he discovers that the commercial will involve Scott and Ian kissing on National television. After how much trouble could a simple kiss cause?

The Kiss, like G.A. Hauser’s other works, has fabulously imperfect characters that are completely and utterly addictive. Ian, Scott, and Claire are all struggling to find their place in the world. Claire has been the most successful on the business front but has allowed her love life to languish as a consequence. Scott and Ian are both men struggling to make it in a dog eat dog industry and willing to do just about anything to make it. Scott probably intrigued me the most as a man struggling with feelings that he deems to be inappropriate. Both men are straight but Ian seems to have less difficulty with “The Kiss” and its possible repercussions than Scott. The chemistry between the two men was palpable and the added forbidden love factor upped the ante on how they each responded to the situation. Claire has a strong presence in the story but the emotional upheavals experienced by Scott and Ian eclipsed her part in the story but she did serve her purpose of showcasing the veracity of Ian’s feelings. My only complaint was that at times the plot seemed a bit rushed and I would have enjoyed a more time spent with Ian and Scott and how they came to grips with their feelings.
