| William and Allen, foster brothers and knights, are summoned to battle. But when William is visited the night before the battle by Ahriman, the course of his life and the events following will change forever. William pays the horrid price to save his friend and tries to move on with his life, but after further visits from Ahriman, more things start to happen. When he is summoned to the king, he will find out something that will change the course of his life forever.
Allen has been in love with William since they were boys, but he knows William will not give in to his desires. He remains by William’s side faithfully, with hope that one day William will cede to what Allen wants. But when William’s wife Margaret shows up, he feels an undeniable pull toward her. The desire and love is overwhelming, but alas, she is his best friend’s wife. Margaret is William’s wife due to an arranged marriage by the king. After a misstep of infidelity during a village festival, she becomes pregnant. She longs to right everything with William and consummate their marriage, but she can’t get William to open up to her. And then there’s also the feelings she has toward Allen. But after one mistake, she knows better than to make another one. How will she ever make William see he deserves her and force him to accept her and open up to her. While the story itself was a wonderful idea, there were some technical errors that distracted me from the storyline. The story felt a little drawn out, as if it could have been half the length and still had the same impact. I felt William at times was a little too timid—just do it, man! I loved Margaret and her initiative to seek William out when he was away at battle. It would have taken nerves of steel to do that. The description was just enough so I could picture it my own way, but not too much to paint out every little detail.
