| Kierra's kin are among the rebels battling the ruthless Argadian Tribunal. Her brother Devon had been captured seven years earlier and transmuted into an assassin more robotic than human, and Kierra herself has recently been sprung from tortuous captivity. Kierra had been utilised as a training mode for the brutal Enforcers, the assassins, in the use of sexual techniques as a method of guerilla warfare. Only the intervention of a fellow prisoner, Jarek, a captive mindwanderer, had helped her to mentally and psychically escape the torments. When her sister-in-law Eluria, a courtesan, engineered her escape, Kierra had made certain of Jarek's freedom as well.
The Serdionese, of which Jarek is one of the few surviving members, life-bond with their mates in such a way that the minds and souls of both create an energy bond which has a life of its own-almost a third entity in the partnership. Jarek had long given up on ever attaining such a bond once he was captured and his family and society destroyed. Yet when he was imprisoned near Kierra, he immediately experienced her energy and the mating link, and bonded his consciousness to hers. That bond was all that enabled the two to survive their predatory captors. Adrianna Dane has a special gift with science fiction and renders the worlds she creates as totally believable. The reader finds herself falling into the story from the very first paragraph, and empathising with the wonderfully delineated characters. The plot is also fast-paced, and maintains the suspense throughout. Kierra's Thread is worth reading, both by fans of futuristic and scifi genres, but also for readers who just love intriguing stories with excellent characters to captivate our imagination.
