| Devastated by divorce from a cheating spouse, Nikkie went to Maui to work at The Big Kahuna, the bar owned by her best friend, Val, who was now her sister-in-law and her brother, Sam. She needed a new start and they could use her help. Val warned her to watch out for the surfers, especially the very handsome, rich and strange Shark. He seemed to be a bit off and his sister, Pele, was certifiable. She believed she was a volcano goddess. Val and Sam had adopted an autistic child named Angie. The only name Angie could pronounce was Shark's real name, Kalahiki. She loved him and instinctively knew his true nature. For centuries Kal had been alone even though he went through a lot of women. Most of them only wanted him for his devastatingly gorgeous body or his billionaire bank account. None were willing to make the sacrifice it would take to become his wife. None had ever loved him enough. Maybe Nikkie would be the one. He'd stopped hoping long ago. He couldn't bear the pain of beginning to hope again.
This book is an exciting, fun read. Kal was a god; no, really. He looked like a god. The most gorgeous man you've ever seen. An extraordinary surfer and he swam like a fish. Well, a shark. He saved people from drowning more often than the lifeguard, Geeter. He's filthy rich and has everything, except the Big Kahunas of old, who used to wave to him when they passed him in the water, except for friendship and love. Nikkie's self-esteem is shattered because she felt she must not have been enough or her ex-husband wouldn't have needed other women. She fell fast and hard for Kal, but can't believe he could actually return her feelings. When they make love, they make their own volcanic action. Just reading about all that lava heat makes a lot of steam. Val, Sam, Angie, Pele and Geeter each add their own warmth to the story and are a delightful, interesting plot device to educate us about the folklore and legend of the island, particularly Kalahiki and Pele. I was drawn into the story from the first page and fell more and more in love with Kal as I began to know him. He and Nikkie couldn't be more perfect for each other and I found myself hoping for them to find some way to be together. They were both such good people and so deserving of happiness; as were Val and Sam. I loved the ending. In fact, I loved everything about the whole story. You will too. Pick up your copy right away. The Biggest Kahuna is a book you don't want to miss.
