Grieving the loss of his lover, Garrett Davidson ventures to a less-traveled area of Hawaii to write Marc's Story, a manuscript about his lost love that has become an obsession. Garrett leases a secluded ocean front shack, perfect for finishing his ode to Marc, or so he believes. Until he discovers the property comes with hired help, a welcome distraction in the form of a Japanese-Hawaiian surfer and Shaman-in-training, twenty year-old Songoree. While he works diligently to heal Garrett's spirit, Songoree's kahuna grandfather has a different agenda for his tenant. Caught in the middle, Garrett plunges into a fight for sanity, life, and love that will brutally test the boundaries of his spirit.

Island Song is so much more than a wonderfully portrayed Hawaiian love story. With human emotions swirling in the face of sudden danger, grief, self-acceptance, vengeance, and trust, I found this story encompassing many compelling issues that tug at even the toughest of hearts. The romance between Garrett and Songoree is so beautiful and so well written, reading about their love conveyed in something as innocent as a shoulder massage brought tears to my eyes. Not only did Chin give his main characters meaningful depth, he also brought to life a complicated cast of supporting characters that added many dimensions to the story's theme. While captivating me with detailed portrayals of love and acceptance, Chin kept me on the edge of my seat with his many accurately depicted adventure scenes. From surfing to shamanism, shark attacks to bar fights, ancient rituals to fire walking, and loss of love to loss of life, I found the story a true page-turner. From start to finish, I was entranced, and I walked away with a deeper meaning of both, love and life. While the main pairing is two males, the love scenes are tastefully done. I recommend Island Song to readers searching for an action-packed, breathtaking romance.
