| Justin Devereux hadn’t flown economy in longer than he could remember. Because of his desperation to get out of England, he was forced to take the only seat available on this flight. If not for his present circumstances, he would have missed the fiasco which was Holly and Lilly Kirwan. The two of them were also anxious to get out of England but for entirely different reasons.
Holly’s in-laws were trying to take Lilly, 11-month-old daughter of their son, Robbie, an only child and the husband of Holly, who was slain in Iraq while serving his country with the English troops. The Kirwans did not want Holly because they felt she was beneath them and had trapped their son into marrying her. As Holly faced this hopeless situation she was forced into running with little money and almost no clothes or food. What a contrast these two made. Ms. Margaret Tanner is a new author to me. This, my first work of hers, will definitely not be my last. She has developed a clear, concise style of writing which projected a plot with a little of all the elements to keep a reader enthralled. Her storyline was poignant and caused me to shed many tears. However, the book was not overall sad. It addressed the issue of soldiers fighting in an unpopular war and dealt with the aftermaths of war on individual families. The characters were believable and played well against each other. The book offered something for everyone—a beautifully sweet love story interwoven with a little mystery, sexual harassment, anxiety, sexual tension, and heart wrenching emotions. I really enjoyed this book and the story of Justin and Holly. It was beautifully written and easy to read. I literally read through the night because I did not want to put it down. I wholeheartedly recommend both this book and this author.
