Reynard has been left stripped of his title and is left responsible for his younger sister after the deaths of his parents. He is also responsible for the upkeep of his ancestral home. With no other resources available he turns to robbery as a way of making ends meet. To add to his problems his sister has become affianced to a man who cares little for her except for her dowry. Reynard finds himself trying to avoid the sheriff as he goes about his extracurricular activity trying to obtain the money for her dowry. During one of his escapades he robs a man that later is discovered to be his new neighbor.

Geoffrey is very observant of the highwayman that robs him at gun point. He takes in his fine build and enjoys what he sees. He makes a point of meeting Reynard to encourage a friendly neighbor relationship. The attraction is immediate and soon their relationship goes beyond that of a neighbor. Geoffrey is very happy to offer any assistance the proud Reynard will accept.

The Highwayman is a spicy action filled historical romance. The strong characters bring the era to life as the transition of government has impoverished many of the nobility. Reynard is a man that works as hard as possible to support his sister as she goes about to trying to find a husband. As his sister returns with a fiancé of dubious character the tension builds. Readers feel the anxiety Reynard experiences as his life is thrown into turmoil. Anger and frustration rules the emotions in this story and readers will easily feel the desperation that has caused Reynard to turn to crime.

Reynard’s daring robberies and battles with the sheriff add excitement to the story. Chases from horse back and more will thrill the readers. Reynard manages to stay just one step ahead of the sheriff and has some very close calls. Readers will enjoy the action and excitement of this story.

Geoffrey is a man of experience. He is instantly attracted to Reynard and goes about to seduce him. Reynard has more important things on his mind and does not easily fall for the seduction. Their relationship is interesting in the way it unfolds. Always in the back of the mind is the fact that Reynard is trying to avoid the sheriff. Readers will be on edge to see what Geoffrey plans for Reynard.

Reynard is very reserved and he has his mind on all his difficulties. He seems to use Geoffrey’s attraction as a means to work out some of his frustrations. Eventually readers will begin to see the beginning of a mutually satisfying relationship. Many steamy scenes are described in detail to thrill the imagination of the readers’ imagination.

The Highwayman is a very entertaining story due to the turmoil in Reynard’s life. Readers will be very interested in seeing how all his difficulties are resolved. Readers are encouraged to check out this latest in historical romances by Emily Veinglory.
