Petra is drawn to the town of Silver Creek and does not understand it, but she never expects to be kidnapped by werewolves. They want revenge on the PIA and her adoptive parents as well as the man she reluctantly agreed to marry. She has dreams of another life and being loved by her kidnappers and another man, but these memories have nothing to do with her real life or death. The werewolves and other paranormals of Vampyre Falls are fighting for their survival. The PIA wants to experiment on them and then eliminate them and Petra is leverage against them and their sadistic doctors. What they don’t realize is that she is more like them than they think. Carson Black has lost his mate, so he should not be attracted to another, especially a Thornton, but Petra is more than he can resist.

This is a very exciting tale from Petra’s kidnapping by the Dawlins weres in the first pages and the tension and suspense does not lessen until the very end of the story. Between the action scenes and Petra’s love scenes with Carson, I never did get a chance to catch my breath. I liked the setting and the residents of Vampyre Falls; the Thorntons and Petra’s putative fiancé Roland are pure evil. The reasons for the attraction between Petra and Carson are not as simple as they seem and lead to some spectacular emotional fireworks between the two characters. My sympathies were with Petra from the very beginning. Rainna is the voice of reason and Trey the protector and it is good to revisit the characters from previous stories. Ms. Dane has created a world of paranormals that the reader will want to visit again and again, I know I do. Suspense, danger, paranormals, and scorching love scenes are very hard to resist.
