Caitlin McKay is a psychic who regularly works with police on various matters. She has no memory of her life before the age of six, when she was found alone and badly beaten. The general consensus was that she was better off not knowing who she was. She has a vision of a woman being kidnapped in the coastal village of Longford and calls the local police to let them know. The chief doesn't believe her, but one of the detectives, Kyle Harris, agrees to see her. Everyone in town thinks that Shawna just ran away again, but Caitlin's vision introduced a little bit of doubt. Longford is a town haunted by the murder of a young woman and a child twenty one years before. A man was arrested, but killed before trial. The father of the dead child was involved in many shady dealings and seems to own the town. Kyle is now obsessed by two mysteries, murder over twenty years ago, and disappearence in the present. Caitlin seems to be the key to solving both crimes. Unfortunately, Kyle is not the only one in town aware of that fact.

The author has managed to create an aura of supense and foreboding throughout the novel. No person in Longford is what they seem, and they all have connections to each other and the long ago murder that Caitlin isn't privy to. She is strongly attracted to Kyle, but his secrets and her previous experience with another police officer have left her wary. She is also having flashbacks to her own past. I couldn't put this one down. I had to know who killed Isabelle, who kidnapped Shawna, and who Caitlin really was. I figured out early on the relationships between Shawna, Josh, and Kyle, but the other mysteries in the novel really kept me on the edge of my seat until the end of the story.
